Robert E. Conrad, 77, of Buffalo and Lighthouse Point, Fla., died Tuesday (Jan. 18, 2000) in Florida.
A lifelong resident of South Buffalo, he attended South Park High School and St. Joseph's Preparatory School. Conrad played American Legion baseball from 1939 to 1940.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. after 25 years of service in the basic oxygen furnace. He also was the co-owner of the Hometown Realty Corp. and a union bricklayer.
Conrad was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Blackthorn Club, Father Baker Council, Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans, Cazenovia Men's Senior Golf Club and served as president of the Jack Hess Social Club. He also was an avid golfer and baseball player.
Conrad was one of the original coaches and board members of St. Ambrose Little League and the organizer of the Tyro Football League in South Buffalo.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, the former Monica Dietrick; three sons, Greg, Michael and Jack; three daughters, Karen Bolm, Nancy Deubell and Joan Aquila; one brother, William; and 10 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 450 Abbott Road. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Town of Hamburg.
