Michael C. Mahaney, a 27-year veteran of the Buffalo & Erie County Library, has been named deputy director and chief operating officer of the 53-branch system, library officials announced Friday.
In his new post Mahaney will oversee all support and planning functions of the library, as well as the areas of policy development, legislative relations, and the supervision of the library's state and federal grants.
He will also continue to work in the area of the library's review and implementation of the "strategic plan" document that calls for a consolidation of some branches in the system.
Mahaney, 47, the library's assistant deputy director for community relations for the past nine years, will be paid $77,000 in his new post.
An Elma resident, Mahaney is a 1976 graduate of the University at Buffalo, with a master's degree in library science. He is married and has one child.
