John Leon Gorka, a native of Connecticut who settled in Niagara Falls after attending college here, died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2000) in a Bridgeport, Conn., hospital. He was 83.

He was born in Windsor Locks and was a 1940 graduate of Niagara University.

He married the former Ruth V. Huckabone, who was a Niagara Falls resident.

Gorka retired from Airco-Speer Co. in 1972, and the couple moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where they lived for 20 years. After his wife died in June 1996, Gorka moved in with his daughter, Eileen Wojcik, who lives in Monroe, Conn., in 1998.

He was a member of Monroe Senior Citizens.

Besides his daughter, survivors include three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be private. Burial will be in Niagara Falls.
