For days now, I have been trying to accept the new pay raises for four appointees -- totaling nearly $60,000 -- pushed through by City Comptroller Anthony Nanula. "My agenda is for real change," he says, adding that the raises are necessary "in order to attract good quality people" and "we wanted to hit the ground running."
"My agenda is for real change." Yes, this is a change that we the people can now add to our taxes. "In order to attract good quality people." What do Maurice Garner and Anthony Farina bring to the table that will benefit the taxpayers? I don't think either one is a qualified accountant or brings specialties. As for "We wanted to hit the ground running," I cannot think what this could mean to any city taxpayer.
Nanula says it is up to city residents to decide if the raises are fair. After talking to neighbors, friends and relatives, the answer is obvious. How sad that a majority of voters did not see through this carpetbagger in November. We could have used these funds to cut the garbage fee or property taxes. Shame on Nanula for treating us like morons.
