I think it's a sad day for the courts when they are not only denied the help they need, but criticized for expressing that need. Anyone who is at all familiar with Cheektowaga Town Court knows that hundreds of cases are heard there every month, and this system cannot be automated because of opposing political views.
If justice is to be served, Town Justices Ronald Kmiotek and Thomas Kolbert should be able to serve it in an expeditious manner, dependent upon their personal needs. The Town Board should immediately fill the three key clerk jobs that have been vacant since Dec. 31. To keep the system moving, the staff must be put in place.
Violators of the law are only too happy to hear of garbage like this, which causes trials to be delayed. Cheektowaga has been kept safe and decent because of the magnificent performance of these two judges, and those of us who do not break laws expect that to continue. We know what the problem is, so let's fix it.
