DOWD SAYS ROSE COULD STILL BE IN BASEBALL

Pete Rose would still be in baseball today if he had admitted he had a problem with gambling, according to the man whose investigation led to Rose being banished from the sport.

"If Pete would have admitted (his mistakes), baseball would have helped him. He'd probably be in the game today," investigator John Dowd said during a fund-raising speech for the Scarborough (Maine) High School baseball program.

Dowd came to Scarborough at the request of Dino Giamatti, the brother of Bart Giamatti, the late commissioner who banned Rose from baseball.
