The swan song of "1999" has arrived -- take it from the artist himself.

Prince (or the artist formerly known as such) said the '80s megahit will be part of a pay-per-view concert scheduled to air tonight -- and that's it.

"This is going to be the last time we play it," he said Wednesday on CBS' "The Early Show." "We're going to retire it after this, and there won't be no need to play it in the '00s."

Prince said he wrote "1999" 17 years ago. He just released a new album, "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic," his first in three years.
