A Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel J. Pyne, a former South Buffalo resident, was offered today in Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, Orchard Park.

Pyne, 77, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) in a Leesburg, Fla., hospital.

Born in Buffalo, he was an Army staff sergeant and served in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad for 42 years and retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1982.

Pyne was a member of the Packard Automobile Club, the Antique Automobile Club of America, the American Association of Retired Persons and Post 721, American Legion, in South Buffalo. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader.

Heis wife, Roberta L. Weaver Pyne, died in 1991.

Survivors include a son, Dale T. of Orchard Park; a daughter, Dannette L. Smith of Bellevue, Ohio; two sisters, Agnes Schick of West Seneca and Margaret Ball of Buffalo; and two grandchildren.
