First Night has become an annual showcase for local performers, but more than that, provides a night designed for family fun on New Year's Eve. Downtown Buffalo is transformed into a party center as kids, teens and adults find entertainment on city streets. This year's musical performers include the Sattalites, a Toronto reggae band, playing at the Allright Parking Tent at 8 and 10 p.m. Disco Duck presents retro sounds starting at 8 p.m. in the Buffalo Convention Center. Harmonica Dean and the Blue Light play R&B at 7 p.m. in the Fleet Bank Building and will be followed by Gunslinger, a Top 40 act. Emil Latimer and Friends bring jazz sounds at 7 in the Key Center and Pappy Martin follows with more jazz at 10. Gamalon and Bread Gone Wry play original rock at 7 in the Market Arcade, while Eric Endres and Greg Klyma offer more original music at 7 in Theater Place. The night will end with the ball drop at Roosevelt Plaza, as Party Squad entertains the thousands expected to celebrate the year 2000. Check Gusto listings for other First Night events.
