The Lackawanna Municipal Housing Authority has approved a five-year contract for its new executive director, former Lackawanna Mayor Kathleen M. Staniszewski.
The board voted, 6-1, Tuesday to approve the contract, which carries an annual salary of nearly $60,000, said Charles Barone Jr., who is retiring as executive director.
Staniszewski will take over Monday. The seven-member Housing Authority board unanimously chose her as the new executive director earlier this month.
The opposing vote on her contract came from Douglas Druzbick, who approves of Staniszewski for the post but wanted a shorter contract, Barone said.
Staniszewski served two four-year terms as mayor before being defeated in November by John Kuryak.
Barone said that, as mayor, she approved the Housing Authority's grants, appointed commissioners and developed a strong familiarity with the authority's business that will help her in her new position.
The Housing Authority operates 491 units in three complexes in the city.
