Edward J. Daly, 85, who retired from the former Union Carbide, Niagara Falls, as a yard department engineer, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Minneapolis, Kan., where he attended local schools.
Daly played semi-professional baseball in Minneapolis after high school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Daly moved to the Sanborn area in 1945 after his discharge from the service. He worked for Union Carbide for more than 30 years, retiring in 1977.
Daly was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, the Sanborn American Legion and Union Carbide Retirees, and was also an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company since 1956.
His wife, the former Ann E. Smith, died in 1971.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Wendt of Lockport and Jane Sherwood; a brother, Douglas of North Tonawanda; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.
