The Amherst Youth Board and Recreation Department will hold a New Year's Eve Youth and Family Event Friday at the Amherst Pepsi Center, with a dance for grades 7 to 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. and an open house with face-painting, broomball, arts and crafts and refreshments from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dance is free for students with valid ID. Studio Arena Theatre School offers classes four times a year, in spring, summer, winter and fall. Scholarships are available. For information, call 856-8025, Ext. 1770.

The West Seneca East High School Drama Club received four merit awards from the Theater Association of New York State for its fall production of "The Diary of Anne Frank." Awards went to junior Nicoelyne Boutilier for best newcomer, Adam Leas for show lighting and Kathryn Chesley for director. The play cast and crew were honored with an award for Best Overall Ensemble.
