The building has now been leveled, but there is still some demolition work remaining at the former Watson Industries building.
Jeffrey Lehman, director of Public Works, said late last week the contractor for the $237,000 project, Lebis Enterprises of Buffalo, should be finished sometime this week.
"The building's been completely demolished, and most of it has been removed from the site," said Lehman.
"Right now, the contractor is finalizing the cleanup, and stabilizing the site so when they leave, it's a safe, secure site."
Recent work, Lehman said, included removal of some contaminated soils as part of the tearing down of the approximately 100-year-old building at 335 Harrison St. Watson Industries was closed down last year, and seized for failure to pay taxes.
Assets inside the building were auctioned off to satisfy the taxes and liens against the property.
A nearby industry, Phoenix Metal, has expressed interest in using at least part of the site for expansion.
