A woman purporting to represent a church stole a wallet from a patient's room in Mercy Hospital on Christmas Day, South District police said.
The victim, who is a resident of West Seneca, told officers that a young woman came into her room at the Abbott Road facility late Saturday afternoon. She said she was from a church and had literature for her.
When the victim turned her back, the visitor took a wallet containing approximately $20 cash and credit cards, according to police reports.
A hospital security officer told police that the woman was in other patients' rooms as well.
Security officers searched the hospital for the woman, without success. She was described as white and approximately 20 years old. She was 5-foot-2 and had black hair and wore a black leather coat and black skull cap.
