Demolition equipment stands ready to tear down the Stewart Avenue house where an 81-year-old woman died in a fire Christmas night.
The body of Martha Zakrzewski was found inside the house at 32 Stewart Ave., where fire was reported at 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
Zakrzewski died as a result of smoke inhalation, according to the Erie County medical examiner's office.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, which caused an estimated $120,000 damage, according to Buffalo fire dispatch.
Flames broke out on the first floor of the 2 1/2 -story frame home, a dispatcher said, and spread to the second floor and attic.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the dispatcher said.
