Sean "Puffy" Combs and Jennifer Lopez were arrested and charged today with criminal possession of a weapon hours after a gun was found in their car as they left a Times Square-area nightclub where three people were shot and wounded, Police Commissioner Howard Safir said.
Police were investigating eyewitness accounts alleging that Combs fired a gun in the nightclub following a dispute near the bar area, said a police source, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The gun was reported stolen from Georgia, said a second police source, also speaking on condition of anonymity.
No charges were immediately filed. Another person was arrested at the club on a gun charge.
Combs, the platinum-selling record producer, and Lopez, an actress and singer, were in the back seat of a Jeep with a driver and a bodyguard in the front, said the source who reported the eyewitness accounts.
The Jeep was stopped about 2:30 a.m. today, about 10 minutes after the shooting at the trendy dance spot, Club NY, said Detective John Giammarino, a police department spokesman.
A gun was found in the car, and none of the four had a license for it, Giammarino said
