Canisius will become a part of Indiana basketball history tonight when it meets No. 20 Indiana in the first round of the Union Federal Hoosier Classic at Indianapolis.
The game will be Indiana's first at Conseco Fieldhouse, which opened last month as the new home of the NBA's Indiana Pacers. Tonight's game begins at 7 and will be broadcast live on WWKB Radio (1520). It will be shown on tape delay by Empire at midnight.
Canisius (2-7) has never met Indiana (8-1). The Griffs have lost three straight, with the last being Wednesday's 79-65 defeat at Loyola (Ill.).
Regardless of tonight's outcome, Canisius will play Tuesday at 4:45 against either Holy Cross (3-5) or Alabama-Birmingham (6-3).
In other college basketball news, Stanford (9-0) held the No. 1 spot in the AP college basketball poll for a second straight week today.
The Cardinal, who beat Mississippi State 76-56 in their only game last week, easily outdistanced Connecticut (8-1). Cincinnati, which had been No. 1 for five weeks until being replaced by Stanford, moved up one spot to No. 3. Complete poll on Page 15.
