A search was under way Saturday for a man suspected of luring seven police officers to investigate a bomb threat outside a restaurant and then detonating an explosive device when they arrived.
All seven officers were wounded.
The explosion at the Manos restaurant was the latest in a series of bombings in Cape Town that have injured scores and killed at least two, threatening Cape Town's lucrative tourist industry. So far there has been no clear motive in the attacks.
Safety and Security Minister Steve Tshwete, after visiting the scene of the most recent bombing, said the attackers had a political motive.
Tshwete pledged extra police officers for the Western Cape province and said all investigations would be overseen at a national level by the newly created FBI-style Scorpions unit.
