DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN HYPES THE HIP

Planners trying to revitalize Schenectady's deteriorated downtown should work on convincing young people that the city is the hip place to be.

That's the assessment of Hunter Interests, the Annapolis, Md.-based consulting firm paid $450,000 to help develop a master plan for the struggling city.

In a 250-plus page report, Hunter Interests backs up ideas and strategies that city leaders have talked about for months. These include a 16-screen movie theater, a transportation center that would link railroad and bus service, and a sports arena.
