CANADIAN FRIENDSHIP WEEK TO KEEP PARTY GOING

A unique celebration in Ellicottville promises to fill up the first week of the new millennium and sweeten those inevitable post-holiday blues.

From Jan. 3 to 9, the community extends an invitation across the border with a list of Canadian Friendship Week discounts, topping the affair off with a lineup of entertainers in a Winter Blues Festival weekend.

The Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce has sponsored both events in the past on a smaller scale. Now the two are being combined to usher in the turn of the century and could help boost the lagging numbers of Canadian visitors while luring some newcomers to the "Aspen of the East."

Canadian patrons will receive some special lift-ticket or lesson rates at Holiday Valley and Holimont. Also offered are deals on equipment rentals, services, certain retail goods and lodging accommodations.

Beginning at 5 p.m. Jan. 7 and running through Jan. 9, blues entertainers will fill the bill at participating bars and restaurants around the town.

The artists and groups set to perform at different times include: Tommy Z, the Morvels, Shakin' Smith and His Blues Band, Mark Winsick Blues Band, Dan Harper Brothers Blues Band, Mojo Hand Blues Band, Rabbit Foot, Joleen Williams, Urban Renewal, Rabbit Foot, and Bluzeinn.

They will perform on various stages at: Balloons, Ellicottville Inn (Washington Street), Cadillac Jack's, Dina's, Greta's at the Silver Fox, Madigan's, Ellicottville Brewing Company, Gin Mill and Monroe Street Tap Room.

A schedule and list of discounts can be obtained at the Chamber's Web site, www.ellicottvilleny.com, or by calling 1-800-349-9099 or 699-5036.
