ANOTHER WRESTLER ENTERING POLITICAL RING

Jesse "The Body" Ventura came first. Could "Luscious Laurent" be next?

Laurent Soucie, a former professional wrestler, says he's running for the Wisconsin Assembly.

Soucie, 46, was a successful wrestler at the University of Wisconsin and member of the 1980 Olympic squad before moving on to the World Wrestling Federation.

During his two years in the WWF, he was known as "Luscious Laurent, the most handsome man to grace the squared circle."

But Soucie says he shouldn't be compared to Ventura.

"I started in politics long before Jesse," he said.

Soucie works as a substitute teacher and raises sheep on a farm in rural Lodi, where he lives with his family.

Soucie, a Democrat, said he has been going door-to-door in his effort to unseat Rep. Eugene Hahn, a Cambria Republican who has held the seat since 1990.

"Jesse Ventura wasn't elected because he was a wrestler," Soucie said.

"He was elected because he speaks the language of regular people who feel caught between the two parties."
