The overnight snowfall Thursday in central Chautauqua County was the perfect Christmas present for the Cockaigne Ski Center.
Linda Johnson, public relations director for the winter resort, said Friday Cockaigne finally opened Thursday night, and by Friday morning, it had 11 inches of new, natural snow on the slopes.
With the combination of natural and man made snow, she said, all trails except the Crackerjack Area were open.
"We've been bemoaning the fact we weren't getting all the snow that Fredonia and Silver Creek . . . was getting," said Johnson.
Then the lake-effect snow machine moved south and by midnight Thursday "it was just snowing like crazy."
