DRUNKEN FBI AGENT BLAMED IN FATAL CRASH

A drunken FBI agent driving the wrong way caused a head-on crash that killed two men last month on a Pompano Beach highway, authorities said.

Shortly after the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol had incorrectly blamed the accident on one of the victims and suggested that drugs or alcohol might have been a factor. Highway Patrol Maj. Rick Carpenter apologized Thursday to the brothers' family.

"That was a mistake we made," he said.

Agent David Farrall, 36, was driving south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 on Nov. 23 when his Honda struck an oncoming car, Carpenter said.

Authorities said Farrall's blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, more than twice the legal limit.

Maurice Williams, 23, and his brother Craig Chambers, 19, died instantly in the collision.
