Ah, the sweet sounds of the season: sleighbells, carolers and drummer John Bacon Jr.'s Electric Eclectic Holiday Jam. The jam session, now in its third year, takes place Monday at 9 p.m. in Mohawk Place. "It's turning into an annual affair," says Bacon (pictured above, playing in the band of salsa master Wendell Rivera). Bacon's yuletide tradition began two years ago when fellow drummer Bobby Previte was in town and asked him about getting local musicians together for an impromptu jam. Since then, participants have included such freewheeling local notables as Rey Scott, Rick Strauss, Joe Rozler and Dave Schmeidler. The attendance list is always unpredictable, just like the music itself. "I just call up a bunch of guys I know," Bacon says. "Nobody can tell anyone what to play, is the only rule."
