HARGROVE PUTS PARK IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Jason Hargrove had 31 points and 10 rebounds as undefeated Park beat Hutch-Tech, 79-57, Wednesday night in the first round of the Park Tournament.

Jason Zawodzinski added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Park (8-0), which went on a 24-8 run in the fourth quarter. Park looks to defend its title tonight against Burgard at 7:30 p.m.

Juan Rodriguez had 21 points (17 in the second half) and Aaron Staples added 17 points and 12 rebounds as Burgard advanced with a 64-61 win over Pioneer. Larry Thomas had 12 rebounds, 10 steals and five blocks for the Bulldogs.

ECIC Interdivision: Jeremy Konst's three-pointer with one second left helped Williamsville East edge rival Williamsville North, 58-55. Kevin Coscia added 11 points for the Flames. For North, Sean Murphy had 25 points.

Chris Buczek had 12 points, 12 steals and 15 assists as JFK dominated Cheektowaga, 89-58. Ed Kasprzyk led the Bears with 24 points. Cheektowaga enjoyed 17 points from Jason Mroz.

Starpoint Tournament: Brad Conklin (12), Josh Sidebottom (11) and Jeremy Nye (10) were in double figures as Starpoint claimed the title, 65-58, over Niagara-Wheatfield. Dave Morrison (13), Scott Mueller (11) and Allen Ingraham (11) paced the Falcons.

Calvin Mays had 26 points and Paul Jordan added 12 as South Park beat Eden, 63-54, in the consolation. Terrell Moore grabbed 14 rebounds for the Sparks. Mark Reed had 20 points while Nick Sam and Brandon Fritz split 20 for the Raiders.

Non-league: Craig Rehwaldt had 16 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double in a row as Akron beat St. Mary's of Lancaster, 52-43. Aaron Sypniewski led the Lancers with 11 points.

Jon Wilson had 25 points and Aaron Kiffer handed out nine assists as Olean topped Jamestown, 52-48. Chad Wiedenhofer led the Red Raiders with 15 points.

Girls

ECIC IV: Kim Wolski had 14 points and Racheal Tarapacki grabbed 10 rebounds for JFK in a 39-33 win over Cleveland Hill.

Newfane Tournament: Tiffany Walton earned MVP honors after scoring 24 points for Nichols in a 57-34 victory over Newfane. Lynn Workman led the Panthers with 18 points. Nichols held Newfane to eight first-half points.

Non-league: Megan Bogdan had 12 points and 15 rebounds to lead Holy Angels (6-1) to a 44-38 win over Lockport. The Lady Lions got 12 points from Amy O'Byrne. Holy Angels' only loss this season is to Section V power Nazareth, 50-44, on Dec. 11.

Jackie D'Orazio had 18 points and Anna Jablonski added 12 points and 10 rebounds as Nardin downed Hamburg, 52-30. The Gators stormed to a 26-8 lead at the half.

Freshman Meghan Himeleim had 22 points and 11 rebounds as Gowanda downed Eden, 60-20.

All nine players scored for Chautauqua Lake in a 52-7 thumping of Forestville. Jacquie Stimson and Alisa Crockett combined for 18 points for the Thunderbirds. Forestville was held to 3-of-40 shooting from the floor.

CCIAC Interdivision: Krystal Widrig had 16 points and 12 rebounds while Journey Gunderson added 10 points and 14 rebounds to lead Maple Grove over Frewsburg, 50-27. Beth Johnessee led the Bears with 16 points.

On the air: Adelphia HTTV will show the replay of the Depew Wildcat tournament, featuring Depew, Lancaster, Cleveland Hill and Villa Maria on Dec. 30 at noon, Jan. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 2 at 1 p.m.
