EMERGENCY TEAMS TO BUY GEAR

Erie County and the City of Buffalo will receive U.S. Justice Department grants totaling $400,000 to buy equipment for emergency response teams to help deal with acts of terrorism involving biological, chemical, nuclear or explosive materials, Rep. Jack Quinn, R-Hamburg, announced Wednesday.

The county will receive $300,000 to purchase a chemical classifier, a bio-detection kit, safety suits, respirators, vests and other items. The city will use its $100,000 to buy special gloves and nozzles, hand-held radios and a mobile microwave receiver system.
