AURORA COLONY PROPOSAL DRAWS PUBLIC OPPOSITION

The controversial Aurora Colony Development project, which calls for building single-family homes and a senior independent living complex along Girard Avenue in East Aurora, didn't get a favorable review from the public this week.

A public hearing that drew 50 people to Village Hall on Monday night, led to 18 people speaking -- with all of them opposed to the proposed rezonings tied to the project.

The Village Board took no action and tabled the rezoning, development plan and subdivision proposal for the development targeted for both sides of Girard Avenue, east of Buffalo Road.

The next step is for a final draft environmental impact statement to be prepared. The board accepted a draft environmental impact statement late in November, noting the project may have a significant effect on the environment. Wetlands comprise part of the project area.

Village Hall will accept written comments about the project until Dec. 30.
