The Arena Football League, which will kick off its 14th season in April, has expanded its playoffs by four teams to 12. The 18 teams, the most ever in the indoor league's history, will play a 14-week, 126-game schedule. Expansion teams were added in Detroit, Los Angeles, and Raleigh-Durham. The regular season kicks off Thursday, April 13, 2000.
Audra Cook's driving layup with 17 seconds left lifted Cleveland State to an 81-78 women's basketball victory over host Niagara before 158 at the Gallagher Center. Niagara's three-point attempt with eight seconds left was blocked. Marissa Sirianni (Sacred Heart) led Niagara with a career-high 12 points, playing only 13 minutes. Amy Getman added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Niagara (3-6).
The widow of golfer Payne Stewart is writing his biography, a Nashville publishing company said. Tracey Stewart will write the book with Ken Abraham. The book is targeted for June 2000 release. Stewart and five others died in a plane crash Oct. 25.
