The Kenmore Village Board on Tuesday agreed to waive parking meter fees on a section of Delaware Avenue for the week beginning Jan. 17 to coincide with the first of up to four tax-free shopping weeks throughout the state.

The request, presented to the board by Trustee Patrick Mang, was made by the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce, which is seeking to increase retail shopping in the village during what is normally a slow period after the Christmas shopping boom.

During that week, the Chamber of Commerce and merchants along the strip plan to provide bags to cover parking meters on Delaware Avenue between Kenmore Avenue and Nash Road in the village. However, those parking at meters in front of and around the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Municipal Building, as well as on side streets, would still be required to "feed the meters."
