The Howard Johnson restaurant here, one of the last of its kind in Western New York and a Main Street mainstay for some 56 years, has apparently closed its doors.

Both the restaurant and the adjacent Howard Johnson hotel at 454 Main St. sustained water damage during a recent rainstorm, sources told The News on Tuesday. The restaurant was closed earlier this week, and the hotel has been operating with less than 50 percent of its rooms available, sources said.

Owner/operator David Fleck declined to comment late Tuesday, saying only that the restaurant was "closed for renovations."
