GRANT FOR LUTHERANS AIMS TO BOOST CHURCH AFFILIATION

Four Lutheran churches in Erie County will receive a $20,000 grant from the Aid Association for Lutherans to reach people who do not belong to a church.

They are Salem Lutheran Church, Springville; First Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Tonawanda; Immanuel Lutheran Church, City of Tonawanda; and Trinity Lutheran Church, West Seneca.

The grant will be used to develop new ways to attract people without a church affiliation to worship services "through God-pleasing, Biblically rooted, people-sensitive, community-oriented approaches," says Rev. David Belasik, president of the Eastern District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, based in Williamsville.

Projects may include leadership training, congregation assessment, public relations strategies, development of new paths for inviting people into congregations, and cross-cultural and ethnic outreach.
