The City Council has decided to back the creation of a new, countywide Forensic Evidence Collection Team, which will be part of the Major Crimes Task Force.

Jamestown Police Chief William Mac-Laughlin said District Attorney James Subjack, Sheriff Joseph Gerace and other police chiefs have been working on developing this collaborative effort for several months.

He said the purpose of the task force would be to allow police agencies to assist each other in evidence collection.

The program should be in place by the first of the year.
