The spirit -- and act -- of giving won a rezoning request for a recreational vehicle business Monday.
Colton RV and Van Center of 3176 Niagara Falls Boulevard was granted its long-sought zoning change by the Town Board after what many observers termed a unique deal.

As part of the arrangement for its commercial zone, the business gave seven abutting property owners 20 feet more of backyard each.
Colton's attorney, Michael Rossi, noted that in 20 years, he has never had a rezoning request result in property deeded back to the neighbors. He said his client has put "a lot of salve on the wound."

The proposal was originally brought to the board earlier this year through the Planning Board, which recommended the change.

The change would allow the business to provide sales and service over 4.8 acres with about a 40-foot buffer zone including pine trees, berms and a white vinyl fence. Under the agreement, it was noted that the parking lot would be at least 40 feet from any residential property line.

he original proposal was met with numerous petitions and residents from Mavis Drive and Krueger Road at meetings, who demanded the board make a decision.

Several residents were still upset about the arrangement and related legalities.
