Helen M. Fritz, a retired guidance counselor in the Buffalo Public Schools, died Sunday (Dec. 19, 1999) in Harris Hill Nursing Home, Lancaster, after a long illness. She was 85.
Miss Fritz was born in Hamilton, Ont. She came to Buffalo with her family at an early age and graduated from D'Youville College in 1934 with a degree in secondary education. She taught history at Girls Vocational High School.
She received her master's degree in counseling from D'Youville and served as a guidance counselor at Kensington High School until she retired in 1978.
She lived in Eggertsville for more than 40 years.
Miss Fritz was an active member of the College Club of Buffalo. In her retirement, she studied Hungarian at the University at Buffalo and spent many summers in Hungary. Her travels took her throughout Europe and many other areas around the world.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in D. Lawrence Ginnane Funeral Home, 3215 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Elmwood Avenue at Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda. Interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
