The Village Board on Monday voted to apply for a state grant if the village decides to try composting as a way to handle sludge from the wastewater treatment plant on Route 5.
The village would need to match the grant by using cash or in-kind services for half of the total cost, or $432,300. The sludge is now taken to the Chautauqua County landfill in the Town of Ellery.
The board also approved a resolution for the opening of bids for a new fire pumper at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 and approved a contract with the Town of Pomfret to contribute $15,500 for the operations of the Office for the Aging. The total budget for the office, headquartered at the Share and Care Center on Eagle Street, is $41,520.
