WEEK FIFTEEN REPORT CARD

Bills 31, Cardinals 21

RUNNING GAME

BILLS (A): After just 26 yards by RBs in first half, Bills pounded them in second half. Linton ran hard and well. Thurman looked wonderful.

CARDS (B): Hard to believe the Cards, ranked 28th rushing, could move on ground. But they did early. Bills tightened up in second half.

PASSING GAME

BILLS (C): Flutie started out fast. He was in rhythm in 1st quarter. But he threw two horrendous INTs in face of pressure.

CARDS (C): Jake has been in a bad slump, so Cards tried to boost his confidence with a lot of safe throws to flats. He has a long way to go.

RUN DEFENSE

BILLS (B): Not nearly good enough in first half. Cards used two-TE set effectively. But they found running lanes closed as game wore on.

CARDS (D): Redbirds lived down to their 30th ranking against run. When Bills put their minds to it, they caved the Little Red front seven.

PASS DEFENSE

BILLS (C): Pass interference penalties on Irvin, Winfield hurt in first half. When Bills got pressure, Jake was forced into bad throws.

CARDS (B): Bennett, Knight stepped in front of ill-advised throws to make good INTs. Big pass rushers weren't all that effective.

SPECIAL TEAMS

BILLS (A): Kevin Williams makes all the right decisions on punt returns. Coverage was solid. Mohr shanked one punt. Jones scored on onside kick.

CARDS (C-): This has been one of Cards' strengths all year. Cody had a good punt return. But kickoff return unit was held in check.

COACHING

BILLS (B): Bills absolutely, positively needed to bounce back. They did. They started fast and did what they needed to do.

CARDS (C): It has been a banged-up, messed-up season in the desert. Now Cards are almost out of their misery.
