Violet E. Toni, 84, who was active in the ladies' auxiliaries of veterans organizations, died Saturday (Dec. 18, 1999) in her home after a long illness.
Born Violet Williams in Welland, Ont., Mrs. Toni moved to Niagara Falls in 1921 and graduated from Niagara Falls High School with a Regents diploma.
She was a 39-year member of the LaSalle American Legion Auxiliary, its past president and an honorary life member. She was also a past president of the Niagara County American Legion Auxiliary.
She also was a president of Cabane 388 and Salon 25, women's auxiliaries of Forty and 8.
Mrs. Toni was a volunteer at Veterans Hospital in Buffalo, where she put in more than 1,000 hours of work.
Her husband of 39 years, James P., died in 1975.
Survivors include three sons, James Jr. of Niagara Falls, Lawrence H. of Amherst and Joseph J.; four daughters, Peggy Ann of South Dayton, Diane Healy, Patricia Hosie and Candice Foley; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Leo's Catholic Church, 2748 Military Road, after prayers at 9 in Otto Redanz Funeral Home LaSalle Park Chapel, 2215 Military Road. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.
