Martha A. Doran, a former nurse at E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital, died Friday (Dec. 17, 1999) in Schofield Residence, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was 91.
Born Martha Greiner in Altoona, Pa., and educated there, she came to Buffalo in 1929 to study nursing at Meyer Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating in 1931, she worked in many areas of the hospital, including the tuberculosis ward, as head floor nurse for surgery and finally as head nurse in admissions. She retired in 1954 after her children were grown. She remained a homemaker until her death.
Mrs. Doran was a member of St. Edmund's Catholic Church and was an expert at needlepoint, her family said.
Her husband, James C., died in 1963.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia of the Town of Tonawanda; two sons, Edward of the Town of Tonawanda and Michael of Shrewsbury, Pa.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Edmund's Church, 530 Ellicott Creek Road, Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
