James C. Donnelly of East Aurora, a retired Metropolitan Life Insurance executive, died Wednesday (Dec., 15, 1999) in the Hospice unit of Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness. He was 86.
A native of Brooklyn, he went to work as a boy as a runner for the Wall Street brokerage house M.C. Bouvier. He began working for Metropolitan at age 18 and spent 44 years there in the claims division, where he met Anne Moubray, who became his wife. She died in 1988 after 47 years of marriage.
Donnelly served in the Navy during World War II at Alameda Naval Air Station in California.
He enjoyed traveling and took trips to Europe and Ireland. He also loved to read.
Survivors include a son, Terrence of Valley Stream; two daughters, Marsha Vreatt of Waldorf, Md., and Kathleen Ernst of East Aurora; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be scheduled in Green Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn.
