A trial on the claim to Charles Kuralt's Montana fishing retreat by his longtime secret companion has been postponed because of the death of Kuralt's widow.
Suzanna Baird Kuralt of New York died Oct. 26, according to papers filed in state court here. She was married for 35 years to the broadcast journalist, who died July 4, 1997.
The most current will written by Kuralt gave his wife and two daughters from a previous marriage the 90 acres of land on the Big Hole River, but in other letters he said he wanted to give the land to Patricia Shannon, his secret companion of 29 years.
Shannon, a divorced mother of three, shared the cabin with Kuralt and vacationed with him. He gave her money and financed her children's education.
