RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS

The Niagara County Health Department inspects every establishment that serves food at least annually.

Restaurants rated as high-risk -- because they serve children or the elderly, or serve foods that require a lot of processing or are prepared hours or days before serving -- are inspected at least twice a year.

Exemplary restaurants receive no ratings; only violations are noted.

There are two classifications of violations. The first ioncludes critical problems that could lead to food-borne illness and must be corrected immediately. The second includes problems with sanitation, design, maintenance or cleanliness. Those violations must be corrected by the inspector's next visit.
