PRINCIPAL'S LEAVING SPURS CHANGES

The resignation of an elementary school principal has triggered a number of proposed administrative changes for the city school district.

Superintendent Raymond Fashano said the shuffling began when the district received a letter of resignation late Wednesday from Love School Principal Kathleen Stewart, whom pointed to personal reasons for the resignation.

"(It) initiated some changes, and sped some things up that we were planning to do later in the year, Fashano said. "But, with that, it just made the moves seem logical to do now."

Jefferson Middle School Assistant Principal Renee Hartling assumes the post beginning Jan. 3. Hartling joined the district in 1996.

In the meantime, Daniel "Deke" Kathman, the district's director of elementary education, will serve as interim principal.

Fashano said current Washington Middle School Principal Amy Van Goodell will be moving to Albany, and submitted her resignation a couple of months ago. She will be replaced by Joseph Yellich. He has been principal at the BOCES LoGuidice Center in Fredonia the past 2 1/2 years.

Fashano also said Jefferson Middle School Principal Thomas Mann will move to the district's central office as director of community and business services. In late January, he added, Jill Sherman will succeed Mann at Jefferson. Sherman is currently assistant principal at the high school
