A Niagara County Court jury convicted a Lockport man on a cocaine possession charge but acquitted him on a count of possession with intent to sell.

Lawrence R. Carson, 26, of Cave Street, will be sentenced Jan. 14 for fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. But the jury cleared him of a third-degree possession charge, which includes intent to sell the drug.

Carson was arrested Oct. 8, 1998, in Lockport by officers of the county Drug Task Force, who said he had 0.18 ounce of cocaine in his possession.

The trial before Judge Amy J. Fricano lasted three days.
