Leon E. Mattoon, 55, of Perry Center, a dairy and cash crop farmer and licensed insurance agent, died Friday (Dec. 17, 1999) in Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw after a long illness.
He was an agent with Hart's Insurance in Perry. He was a member and past chairman of the board of trustees of the First Congregational Church of Perry Center and held many offices in the Perry Center Fire Department.
Mattoon was a member of the Perry Central School Board from 1978 to 1989 and was a former Perry Rotary Club member. He graduated from Perry Central High School in 1963. He was a member of the Wyoming County Cooperative Extension and had served on the Agway board and other agricultural and conservation boards.
Survivors include his wife, the former Amy Niles; a daughter, Sarah Stenson of Perry; two sons, Dale of Union Springs and Dean of West Bloomfield; and four granddaughters.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in First Congregational Church of Perry Center on the afternoon of Jan. 9.
