JOSEPH ZIELINSKI, EX-BALLPLAYER AND RAIL DETECTIVE

Joseph Zielinski, 82, a longtime baseball player and one of the charter members of a committee for the formation of Springville Community Park in 1952, died Thursday (Dec. 16, 1999) in Eden Heights, Eden.

Zielinski and his brothers played on the Springville town baseball team for many years. He was inducted into the Pop Warner Hall of Fame in 1983 for his athletic achievements.

He also served as president of the Southern Baseball League of The Buffalo News.

Zielinski worked for many years as a detective for the B&B and DLW railroads in Buffalo and Rochester. He later was a custodian for St. Aloysius School in Springville, retiring in 1976.

He also was a former member of the Springville Fire Department.

Survivors include three brothers, Lucian, Bernard and Stephen, and a sister, Mary Schunk, all of Springville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Aloysius Church, 190 Franklin St., Springville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
