Nine of Genesee Community College's distance learning courses will be part of the State University of New York's distance learning network during the spring semester, meaning those courses will be accessible anywhere in the U.S. and even abroad.

The plan was announced this week by Robert G. Knipe, dean of information technology. Another advantage is that GCC students can take part in specialized courses not locally available at SUNY colleges.

In addition to the SUNY learning network, GCC will offer 16 telecourses during the spring semester. These allow students to complete course work through videos, the Internet and online conferences.

GCC President Stuart Steiner announced Friday that Stephen Z. Kovacs has been named vice president for finance and operations.
