ARRESTS NET FIVE STOLEN VEHICLES

Niagara Regional Police came up big on one investigation Friday, recovering five stolen vehicles valued at $48,000 as the result of a probe into a gas station holdup.

Police responding to a robbery at 8:20 p.m. at the Gales Gas Bar, 4845 Bridge St., also discovered a man in a stolen car at the gas station waiting to pay for his gas purchase. Keith Sider, 21, was arrested while police continued their investigation into the robbery.

Police said that with the assistance of several citizens, they arrested Christopher Hawes, 31, and Jay MacMillan, 24, in the robbery of money and cigarettes from the gas station.

Hawes and MacMillan were each charged with robbery and forcible confinement. Hawes was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
