State police are asking the thief who stole the head from a full-size marble statue of St. Vincent de Paul to return it to the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine on Swann Road as a holiday gesture.

Investigator David Hall said St. Vincent's head was found missing from the $13,000 statue after vandals knocked the marble image over on the shrine grounds sometime in late September, apparently breaking off the head. "(Vandals) must have taken it with them" when they left the Catholic facility, Hall said.

St. Vincent can be returned by calling the State Police at 434-5589 or 297-0755 and asking for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, or by dropping it off at the shrine, Hall said.
