Flu shots will be given from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Friday and again Oct. 29 at the Orchard Park Senior Center.

Administered by the Visiting Nursing Association, the shots cost $10, but Medicare Part B, Independent Health's "Encompass 65" and Blue Cross/Blue Shield's "Senior Blue" will pick up the cost for people presenting their cards. Call the center at 662-6452 for an appointment.

Also in October, the center will offer a genealogy field trip and a discussion of the importance of the census to seniors.

At 1 p.m. Oct. 8, Cheryl Meyer from the Census Bureau will explain the importance of completing a census questionnaire. Federal dollars that support housing, highways and programs for the elderly are distributed based on census figures. The center asks that attendees call to to reserve a seat.

Oct. 12 is the last day to register for the genealogy field trip on Oct. 14. A bus will take participants to the University at Buffalo's Lockwood Library for an afternoon of research. It will leave the center at 12:30 and returns at about 4:30 p.m. Reservations can be made in person or by calling 662-6452.
