FALLS COUPLE SETTLES FOR $1.4 MILLION IN CRASHES

A Niagara Falls couple has agreed to accept a settlement of $1.4 million for injuries suffered in two separate automobile accidents.

Janet and David Cole agreed to the settlement as their lawsuits were about to go to trial before State Supreme Court Justice Jacqueline M. Koshian, according to their attorney, Robert Viola of Niagara Falls.

In the first accident, Mrs. Cole suffered neck and knee injuries when a vehicle owned by Southtowns Seafood Inc. of Orchard Park allegedly ran a stop sign at 16th Street and Ferry Avenue, striking Mrs. Cole's vehicle. Viola said the truck was making deliveries at the time.

Under the agreement, announced Tuesday, the insurance carrier for Southtowns Seafood Inc. will pay $1.3 million of the settlement.

The second accident occurred when Mrs. Cole's vehicle was rear-ended on Williams Road in Wheatfield by a vehicle being driven by Laurie Colosi. Viola said Mrs. Cole's neck was injured again in this accident.

Colosi's insurance carrier will pay $100,000 of the $1.4 million settlement.
